Teacher-practitioner research can transform practice and enhance school improvement and attainment. New and innovative approaches led by Teaching Schools (outstanding schools who are following the model of Teaching Hospitals) are beginning to apply the same approaches used in clinical practice to their school improvement focused research work. In Teacher-Led Research you will learn how to apply similar approaches within your own school and in collaboration with others. You will: * Understand what a randomised controlled trial is, why it can establish cause and find out 'what works' * Learn to design robust trials, analyse the results and write them up * Know how to integrate these approaches into school improvement and other research methods at individual classroom and school level. This book will be of interest to anyone who is involved in school-level practitioner research, or who wishes to develop their skills in this area. It will also be of interest to teachers who are beginning university education qualifications.

About the Author
Richard Churches is Principal Adviser for Research and Evidence Based Practice at Education Development Trust (formerly CfBT Education Trust), the world leading education consultancy. He has been a government adviser for 13 years and has worked on education programmes and teacher training in a wide range of countries, including Bahrain, India, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, South Africa and the UAE. Richard is currently technical director for Closing the Gap; Test and Learn, the DfE/National College for Teaching and Leadership programme which is delivering 7 large-scale randomised controlled trials with 5 replications. The programme is working through 200 teaching schools and 700 trial site school. Richard also trains teachers in experimental research design in England, Wales and Dubai using the CfBT Education Trust 'Team Science Education' approach. Richard has conducted a wide range of education research for CfBT Education Trust. His PhD research explores the relationship between charismatic influence, hypnosis and altered states of consciousness. Eleanor Dommett has a degree in Psychology from Sheffield University, an MSc in Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience in London and a doctorate in Neuroscience from Sheffield University. During this time she became an Open University tutor, teaching Biological Psychology before moving to Oxford to take up a postdoctoral position at the Dept of Pharmacology. She joined the Open University in 2009 as a Lecturer in Psychology. In 2015 Eleanor joined KCL as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology to teach on the new BSc Psychology.
